Mosquito Trap

There are about 3,500 species of mosquitos, and they are vectors for many diseases including malaria, dengue fever, Zika virus, West Nile virus, and chikungunya. Malaria alone causes more than 400,000 deaths annually.

With its unique enclosure and embedded electronics, this mosquito trap will be designed with several key factors in mind:

  • Inexpensive to manufacture: Materials and assembly cost target < $10.00 (at qty > 10,000).
  • Standalone operation -- wireless.
  • Low maintenance: No moving parts. Empty accumulated mosquito matter every three months.
  • Selective: Only traps mosquitos. Beneficial insects unharmed.
  • 100 square meters estimated coverage area per unit.

Timeline

  • Prototype: 2 months
  • Onsite testing & data collection: 2 months
  • Prototype to NPI: 8 months
  • Time to Market: 14 months

Risks

  • Prototype should perform the same or better than devices currently on the market.
  • Proposed attraction technology needs to be proven in prototype phase.
  • Trapping and containment technology needs to be proven.
